Set up in a couple spots that typically produce in the Spring and gave it a shot. Day 1 ended with over 30+ keeper Togs with half being at least 5lbs and up. The fishing was absolutely unbelievable with fish literally fighting over the bait once it hit the bottom. I’ve never experienced such a ferocious bite this early in the season. My goal was to just catch a few fish and we ended the day in awe wondering where all these fish came from. Hopefully this is the beginning of a great season and there’s plenty more to come. Here’s a snapshot of the 4 fish creel plus some of the action.

Limit

I typically abide by the phrase “never leave fish to find fish” but my main goal is to see what each spot has to offer. I have a handful of favorite spots and just want to see who’s home in each drop. So on day 2 I decided to switch gears and try a couple different spots. We were lucky to find fish at each drop but it was nothing like the previous trip. It was more along the lines with typical Spring Togging, steady action with mostly shorts and a couple keepers mixed in. Ended this trip scrapping together a 3 man limit composed of 16-17 inch keepers along with a pool winning 6lber.

For the past few weeks there’s been an uproar within the fishing community about the predicted 2012 Blackfish regulations. Talk about a Spring closure was originally posted and a shortened Fall season closely followed. Both recreational and commercial Fisherman were trying their best at modifying the closure. Between attending the D.E.E.P meetings and writing a report in the “Coastal Angler” I tried doing my part in voicing a Charter Captains opinion. Many other Fisherman did as well and with all of our work, the season has been reopened. We’re now allowed 2 fish per Fisherman @16 inches. Even if it was only 1 fish, all we needed was something that allowed us to get out there. Now we can take our fathers, children or friends out and have a good time.

You have to fight for what you want. I personally would like to thank all the Fisherman who helped out in making a difference. Now let’s get out there and fish!!

Tried my luck at one of the recently stocked TMA’s and it was loaded with Trout. Most of the fish were in the 9-12 inch range but managed to hook up with a gorgeous Rainbow. Very rarely do I get to see such big Trout before the season officially opens, was a really nice surprise.

Someone was nice enough to come over and snap a couple pics with me and the Bow. Released him back after the photo shoot to fight another day.

If everything goes as planned, the Robalo should be in the water within 2 weeks. Then the real fishing starts, bring on the Salt!!

Last year the Bass arrived a tad bit late due to such a cold Winter. This year I’m expecting the exact opposite. Let’s hope I’m right and we’ll be boating 40 inch Bass by May 1st like we did a few seasons ago.

More of the same of my previous reports. Headed out to deep water and fished a couple pieces that both produced. A lot of good sized Togs with the biggest being this 9lb white chinner.

The bites been so hot where you cant really miss. These fish are on the feed and will be for the next couple of weeks. I’ll be out as much as I can both personally and on the clock. Have tot ake full advantage of this hot bite while it lasts. As soon as we know it we’ll be shrink wrapping and telling stories. Bring on the double digit Togs!!!

Here’s a pic of my father with a couple of the Sea Bass. Took home 10 with 2 over 3lbs. Definitely a great treat mixed in with the Togs.

Had my charter cancel last minute which upset me b/c I could’ve taken on another but when life gives you lemons

Left the dock after sunrise and decided to roll the dice and headed out 10+ miles to an area I havent tried yet. I typically fish this area closer to November but felt lucky. Took only my first drop to find out “lucky” was indeed the word. In addition to happy, satisfied, convinced and excited that the fish were stacked!!!! All Slobs, I mean SLOBS on this trip. Just about every fish we kept was a “get the net” Tog. Such hard fighters, almost felt like they fought harder today then ever. I guess that’s merely the excitement of hooking a fish in an area you didnt know would produce, just have to love the excitement.

Fished for less then 2 hours and took home 8 fish all between 5-8lbs. Threw back so many keepers to let live for another day. Broke off a couple fish that were definitely in the 8+ range, I’ll be back for them later next week

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “this is only the beginning!!!!!!”

With the past few days being blown out I knew today was going to be a great day. Set up right at day break in 25-30′ and was immediately on. Didnt matter what kind of bait you dropped down, it was instantly hit. These fish were hungry and on the feed. For about 2 straight hours we pummeled this one piece occasionaly reanchoring to keep fishing the productive holes.  We ended the trip with a 4 man limit to 7.5lbs and threw back many more keepers.

The past 2 weeks have been incredible and I can only imagine how much better the Togging can really get. There’s been so many fish hit the deck but know the double digit slobs will soon start chewing. If it’s Togs you want, there’s no better time then now. Stay tuned, it’s only going to get better from here!

A friend of mine and myself set out looking for some larger Blackfish. The bite has been absolutely incredible but not a lot of larger fish. This weekend the Tog bite slowed down so we decided to try a different location seeing who was home. Well, they were home and ready to eat.

With wind against tide making it extremely difficult to anchor we had to act fast when in the zone.  It was fast fishing but totally worth it considering the fish we were boating.  Started pulling in some nice fish then hit a 7 and 9lber which won the pool.  Two great fish making the trip.  Wreck fishing is tough at times but all worth it when you land a few slobs like this.

The best is yet to come!!!
